Things to do on Magnetic Island

Being in such a beautiful place with great weather there are an abundance of outdoor activities on Magnetic Island. One of the best things about the island is that you can just go and chill out on a beautiful beach without the crowds. Sometimes you have the whole beach to yourself.

Magnetic Island is really about getting out and about and discovering everything for yourself. The free Magnetic Island guide lists all the walking tracks around the island. When you arrive at the start of a walk it is all signposted making it easy to navigate your way around. The Forts Walk in Horseshoe Bay is a must.

Feed the rock wallabies at the old jetty in Arcadia you can by pellets to feed them from some local stores.

Feed the lorikeets and take great photos at Bungalow Bay at 4pm each day.

Hire a 4WD and drive to West Point and watch the sunset. (Take champagne)

Go fishing at West Point or from the jetty in Picnic Bay. Fishing gear is for hire at Nelly Bay Fish n Fuel. Phone 47 785 126

There are all sort of watersports available and watercraft hire at the beachfront in Horseshoe Bay.

Hire snorkel equipment and snorkel off the beach at Alma, Arthur and Florence Bays.

You can really just relax and take slip right into 'Island Time' and just chill out or take part in some of the organised tours the island has to offer.

Visit Bungalow Bay KOALA VILLAGE. There three guided tours daily around the sanctuary and also a champagne bush tucker brunch every Wed, Fri and Sunday. You have the opportunity to have your photo taken holding a koala! Phone 47 785 577

Day tours to the GREAT BARRIER REEF depart Magnetic Island every Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. The full day tour includes morning tea, afternoon tea and a huge buffet lunch. Day tours to the YONGALA WRECK. Dive Australia's No 1 Wreck Divesite. To dive the Yongala you must have completed your open water certificate and have a least 6 dives logged. You cannot snorkel the wreck as it is up to 27 metres deep. This dive is not to be missed!! This dive company also do day trips to WHEELER REEF which is in pristine condition. Guided JETSKI TOURS depart daily from Horseshoe Bay. You can circumnavigate the island on the three hour tour or take in the top end on the one hour tour.  Phone: 07 47 581 533

HORSERIDING on the beach. This is a fantastic photo opportunity as you ride your horse through a bush track and then take the horse swimming in the ocean. The horserides cater for beginners through to experienced riders. Phone: 07 47 785 109 www.blueyshorseranch.com

Guided SEA KAYAKING tour. Spot turtles, dugongs and other marine life on this eco accredited tour which departs Horseshoe Bay every morning. They also do evening kayak tours 3 times a week. Phone: 07 47 785 424 www.seakayak.com.au

The RED BARON SEAPLANE does joyrides from Horseshoe Bay. This famous plane has featured in the movie The Phantom and is now doing flights around the island. This really is the only way to see the whole island. Phone 07 47 581 556 www.redbaronseaplanes.com.au
